Hi, I’m Moki! I work for Savvy Kids as an investigative journalist. That means I travel the world and write about what I find. What am I looking for you ask? MoneyFitKids wants to know how different countries use money, protect their environment, create things to sell, and stay healthy. They call these pillars.

This month I’m in Athens Greece. It’s vacation time and there are lots of visitors looking at ancient ruins (buildings and cities from over 5000 years ago) and playing in the ocean. The ruins are from ancient Greece.  Ancient Greeks are known around the world for creating the Olympic games, starting  democracy (where each person has a vote and the most votes win), and  mythology, among other important things (everyone knows about Plato, Aristotle and Zeus, right?). Greek businesses try to find ways to bring more and more people to Greece – and that’s why tourism is the biggest source of income.

Greece is a beautiful country with thousands of beaches. The environment must be important to them – the beaches are so clean! In Athens, to reduce the smog in the air, they only let a part of the cars and trucks into the city every day based on the last number of a car's license plate being odd or even.

Greece is part of the European Union. This means they use Euro for money. I paid 8 Euros for a small pizza…check out my pizza chart to see how this compares to other cities around the world.

OK…so how do Greek kids stay healthy? I’ve noticed that A LOT of people walk to get groceries or meet their friends, and a car is not always necessary to go places. There is not as many fast food restaurants (and no drive-thrus!). Lots of seafood, vegetable dips, salads, and local ingredients like olive oil and honey provide many options for healthy meals. Most families enjoy dinners together at home. Soccer is very popular too! Almost all the kids I met play!

Well, this has been a great trip and I’ve learned a lot. Visit me next time when I write about my next adventure: China!
